Ask an AI assistant who owes you money
Instead of opening the app to check balances, connect an MCP-compatible assistant to Split The Bill's MCP server and ask it directly — it reads your real, backend-computed balances, not a guess.

Split The Bill's MCP server (mcp.split-the-bill.app/mcp) exposes read-only tools for exactly this: your overall debt position across every group, a unified net view combining bills and expenses, and per-group debts and balances. Any MCP-compatible client — Claude, ChatGPT, or your own tooling — can call them once you've added your personal token.
Step-by-step

Get your token from Profile → API access
A read-scoped token is enough for balance lookups — it can't create or change anything, only read. Name it, create it, and copy the mcp_… value shown once.

Connect your assistant
Add https://mcp.split-the-bill.app/mcp as an MCP server with Authorization: Bearer <token>. This works the same way in Claude, ChatGPT, or any other MCP-compatible client.

Ask about your overall position
"Who owes me money right now?" or "what's my overall balance?" calls get_overall_debts (or get_unified_debts for the net view across bills, expenses, and groups) and returns your live numbers.

Ask about one group
"How much does everyone owe in the Bali trip group?" calls get_group_debts for that group and returns the per-member breakdown, computed the same way the group's Debts tab in the app would show it.
Read-only means read-only
A read-scoped token can look up bills, groups, balances, invoices and the dashboard, but it cannot create, update, or delete anything — the coarse scope check runs on the backend before any tool call is honored, not as a suggestion to the assistant.

Are the numbers the assistant reads back trustworthy?▾
Yes — every balance tool is explicitly read-only and the amounts are computed by the backend, the same calculation the app's own balance and debts pages use. The assistant only relays what the backend returns.
