Delete your Split The Bill account
These steps apply to the Split The Bill app (Android and iPhone) and to the website. See also our Privacy Policy.
1. In the app (Android and iPhone)
- Sign in and open the More tab.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen (the Account screen).
- Scroll down and tap Delete account.
- Pick at least one reason for leaving.
- On the confirmation step, tap Permanently delete my account.
2. On the web
- Sign in at app.split-the-bill.app.
- Open your Profile and select Delete account at the bottom, or go straight to https://app.split-the-bill.app/profile/delete-account.
- Choose your reasons, then confirm by typing your account email.
3. By email
If you cannot sign in, email [email protected] from the email address on the account and ask us to delete it.
4. What happens when you delete your account
Your account is deactivated immediately and you are signed out everywhere. It is permanently deleted after 7 days. If you change your mind, reply to the confirmation email we send you within those 7 days and we will restore it. Signing in does not cancel the deletion.
When the account is deleted, we remove:
- your account, profile, settings, notifications and sign-in;
- every bill you created, with its participants, items, share links, and the receipt photos and files you uploaded for it;
- every group you own, for all of its members, together with its expenses and balances;
- your wishlists (and their item images), recurring expenses, budgets, saved payment methods and chat history;
- settlements and loans that involve you.
In groups owned by other people, your membership and your shares and payments are removed; the group itself stays with its owner. A paid subscription is not cancelled automatically: cancel it first if you do not want to keep being charged.
5. What we keep, and for how long
- Backups: deleted data can remain in disaster-recovery backups for up to 90 days after deletion.
- Billing records: kept as required by tax and accounting law, handled by our payment provider as merchant of record.
- Server logs: up to 30 days, then deleted automatically.
- Exit feedback: the reasons you gave for leaving are kept without your user ID, so they cannot be linked to you.
Delete some data without deleting your account
Bills and receipt photos. When you delete a bill, the files you uploaded for it (receipt photos, PDFs, item photos) are deleted with it. In the app, open the bill, tap Delete and confirm βDelete this bill?β. On the web, open the bill, select Delete bill, then Confirm delete.
Groups you own. In the app, open the group, open its menu and tap Delete group; this deletes every bill and balance in it. On the web, open the group and use its delete option.
Wishlists. On the web, open the wishlist and select Delete, which removes it and all its items.
Analytics. Analytics is off until you turn it on. In the app, open More, then Privacy choices, switch Analytics off and tap Save preferences; the random analytics ID stored on your device is deleted. On the website, use Cookie settings in the footer.
For anything else, email [email protected] and we will remove it.
